August 2022

Tanninim Publishing LLC awaits my beta reader. He has two stories of Fire Flight and Other Tanninim Tales yet to peruse. If I have no rewrites, the manuscript will fly in different directions: west to the printer and north to the graphic designer. You will see the cover here.

My second beta reader contacted me yesterday. He is again available to give input. He plans to complete his reading by next weekend as well. Praise the Lord!

Regarding my novel, I hadn’t intended to pitch it to the agent at the Realm Makers conference. Instead, with the greatest of humility, I voiced my skepticism with his presentation. And he asked for the first chapter. By October or November he should give me a yea or nay for representing my book. Or at least ask to read the rest of it. I’m praying.

A final quiz for Hebrew pronunciation: tanninim. Notice the weighted plural ending. The middle ni has an i like the i in machine. At the beginning, the syllable tan receives a little more of the stress than the last. Think of wintergreen and you have a good feel for saying tanninim.

I hope to have Fire Flight to the printer before the next month. Meanwhile, may you live as long as Melchaiyim, even to the end of the age.

June 2022 News

Coming out this fall will be a MiniBük of 5 short stories. It will include a prequel to Shona’s Dragons. What provoked the fight that opens chapter one?

To help you read the excerpt from chapter 1, here is a pronunciation tip for you. The African tribal names that begin with two unpronounceable English consonants are, in fact, easy to pronounce.

Nguni: Say the name of the first letter. N. Then say Guni, like the movie Goonies but singular. Got it? Mbire: M. Now Bire like B-ray, but shorter. And roll the r if you can.

What about the An prefix? It abbreviates the title Anah. A, like father. Place the accent on the second syllable like anon. This word is Hebrew for I. The Anah represents his entire tribe in the first person singular.

Next month, I hope to give you an update on the MiniBük’s progress with a date that it goes to the printer. Until then, may you live as long as Melchaiyim, even to the end of the age

Fire Flight

Do you like short stories? This summer I hope to compile 5-10 in a booklet. The final one is a prequel for Shona’s Hope.

I will have the stories available for the Hanover Writers Expo in November. Who knows? Maybe I’ll finish in time for the Virginia Writers’ August conference.

Cross your fingers. And send me an email if you are interested. I’ll put you on my list.

Marry for Rest?

Why marry? Naomi tells Ruth, “…shall I not seek rest for thee?” Marry for rest?

The Greek word means “to permit one to cease from labor in order to recover and collect strength.”

Think of an unmarried woman. She works long days and has a house and yard to maintain. Who has time to rest?

The car needs to be inspected, and the lawn mower broke. The roof has a small leak and the toilet a big one. When does she rest?

She doesn’t. Men, are you prepared to provide rest?

Tripping a Running Man

Mark writes of a running man (Mark 15:36). Who is he? He lacks the dignity of a noble. No VIP would be caught running in public.

And the running man is ignorant. He thought that Eloi was Elias and not Elohim. He was not the only one.

And he is not a soldier. That did not keep him from grabbing a soldier’s wineskin, however.

The running man is cruel. Not only did he offer Jesus vinegar when Jesus said that he was thirsty, but he also told the people around him not to give Jesus anything to drink.

The running man gets people’s attention by taunting someone who appears to be helpless. And it works. The coward is included in the Bible.

How do you trip a running man? Jesus focused on completing His mission. He didn’t speak to the running man. Nobody apparently did, and we read no more of that nameless man.

Refuse to give a Running Man the one thing that he wants: Your attention. Ignore him. Let God wipe him off the earth. Focus on completing the mission that God has given you.

How have you been dealing with a running man?
