Purposeing the heart is an old way to say setting and sticking to your goals. Let’s try it.
I purpose in my heart to write more short stories. Two forces are pressing me. A writing course and money. How many more stories? Well, kind of, sort of, twelve. I’m supposed to write one a month. I’ll explain.
After purposing in my heart to complete the course the Five-Year Plan to Becoming a Best-Selling Author–You haven’t heard of it before? I’ll include a link for you at the end in case you’re curious–I finished the first assigned book.
Next I have to write a short story applying what that book taught, and I’ve purposed in my heart to do that. But I like to combine assignments.
Well, it just so happens that a publisher, one that will be printing an anthology, is accepting fantasy short stories that are set in or around Richmond, Virginia. Tempting.
And if the publisher accepts my story, I’ll get paid up to $50. Now that’s got me interested.
If I can put the two things together and get paid for my homework, I’m all in.
Of course, I haven’t written the Richmond story yet. But I want to include it in my dragon shifter story world. What’s that? I’ll add that link for you as well. So a train–yes, that story–will be involved. And two dragons. And a tunnel… Whoa! One step at a time.
What have you purposed in your heart for 2026? I hope the year will bless you for it.
